Review from Jamie Dowling for The Robin 2, Bilston

Friday 28th March 2008

Recently I went to Bilston’s The Robin 2 to see a classic rock tribute double headliner featuring Rainbow Rising and Whitesnake UK. I’d seen Rainbow Rising a fair few times already: their Tarot Woman and Stargazer really do bring back the atmosphere of the classic album that is Rising. Whitesnake UK (formerly Slip Of The Tongue) I hadn’t seen and was looking forward to. I was not disappointed…

Rainbow Rising were up first and right from the intro to Kill The King sounded the best I think I’ve ever heard them. All of the songs they played are personal favourites and were excellent.  Gates Of Babylon was a nice surprise, a song I hadn’t heard them play before.  Tarot Woman takes me to a special place and Stargazer is just wonderful.  To hear them played so well is a delight.

“Classic” Rainbow was well served - Catch The Rainbow and Sixteenth Century Greensleeves were played as well - but so were the chart hits All Night Long, I Surrender and the classic Since You Been Gone.  A Rainbow had indeed risen over a well attended Robin and left people Rainbow struck on a cold night.  When are you guys playing locally next?

Boy, the Whitesnake guys were going to have to go some to match that.

I’d just come down from that beautiful place Stargazer takes me to when Whitesnake UK came on stage.  Burn and Stormbringer, just like on Live In The Still Of The Night CD & DVD (which is excellent and well worth getting, btw).  Excellent sound, excellently performed and Jamie’s heading to a happy place again :)

Playing favourite after favourite they truly gave sweet satisfaction.  There aren’t too many singers who will suddenly say “I feel like a walk!” and come down from the stage into the audience and get people to sing with them.  Carl Wooton does just that.  Thanks for not exposing Bilston to my dubious voice!

Anyone doubting Carl’s voice should hear him singing Soldier Of Fortune.  Doubters will then be silenced.  A voice in the crowd shouted for it and Carl duly obliged.

Highlight of the set (just one?  That’s not fair!) for me was the bluesy version of Mistreated.  The classics were there - Fool For Your Loving, Still Of The Night, Walking In The Shadow Of The Blues, Is This Love, Ain’t No Love In The Heart Of The City and Love Ain’t No Stranger.

As the final strains of We Wish You Well faded away, I bounced home.  Was that a video camera I saw by a corner of the floor?  I hope so :)

This is a band I will be seeing again. If you get the chance to see Rainbow Rising or Whitesnake UK then do.

Review from Sylvia for JB's, Dudley

Saturday 26th January 2008

WhitesnakeUK,  An excellent tribute band, in fact one of my favourite tribute bands played JB's on saturday 26th jan '08...I travelled from Belfast to go see these guys play.....First and foremost a big THANX to Carl and his family for looking after me so well ........

The band were just as good as i remembered them in Belfast back in Nov...and even managed to carry on despite a few technical difficulties at the start of the show.....(through no fault of their own)

I'd heard so much about this venue, and as it was the bands hometown i was expecting a great crowd and atmosphere......Guess i was wrong.....i suppose some people just need to learn how to rock  i guess when youve got great bands playing on your doorstep every week its easy to become complacent, and take it all for granted....But i still had a good enough night thanx to Carl's Family....

Really looking forward to April now, when I'm sure a packed out Empire will give these great bunch of guys a welcome and atmosphere that their talent and efforts deserve ...... It just goes to prove....'THERES NO PLACE LIKE HOME'

Review from Sylvia for The Empire, Belfast

Saturday 17th November 2007

Ive been a Whitenake fan for over 20yrs and unfortunately Whitesnake have only played in Belfast twice in that 20yrs...So when i heard a whitesnake tribute band was playing the Empire(one of my fav places to go)i couldnt wait to see them...I decided to check out their myspace and i got talking to Carl(lead singer)whos turned into a good friend and who managed to get me and my friends on the guestlist(thanx C. x)

After a few ciders at home we headed to the Empire on a freezin cold rainy night...I took my place at the top of the queue so that i could get my spot at the front of the stage right under the singer lol....While waitin outside Carl came to say 'HI' (which i thought was very nice of him) Once inside at my usual spot we managed to get a look at the setlist and looking at it we knew we were in for a good night...The band came into the hall not long after that and we were introduced to the rest of them and also Carl's mum and dad...Oh and i  met 2 myspace friends there to for the first time (Nigel and Nikkii)..

The band kicked off with Burn(1 of my hubs all time fav rock songs)although some people were struggling to hear the vocals hub sang every note...lolol...The band played all the snakes classics and there was plenty of Sykes stuff in there aswell which suited me fine..Carl had all the 'coverdale' moves which was what i was hoping to see, oh and he even did a request for a friend...

Music, Vocals,Moves and banter with the crowd made for a crackin night all round..Cant speak highly enuff of the band and cant wait until they come back in April and October..And as for the 'aftershow party'......well, lets just say you needed to be there.....My photos are in my myspace pix....I have also added some of Colin Pattersons pix(the Empire's photographer) Thanx Colin!! check em out...
